North Americaother continents
North America occupies the northern part of what is commonly known as the New World. Although heavily influenced by its European heritage – due to the European colonisation in the 15th century – the continent’s soul truly lies in its North American Indian heritage.
The Toltecs and Aztecs developed societies so remarkable that their cities and crafts rivalled those of Europe. The Mayans architecture and aesthetics were so breath-taking and complex that Chichen Itza city has now become one of the 7 new wonders of the world. The Indian tribes, such as the Iroquois and the Cherokee, believed so strongly in the equal partnership between man and nature that their beliefs were never silenced despite the loss of their voices.
The pillars and ideals of the American Indians are all engrained in North American traditional crafts; the legacy of the native civilisations is carried on in the working of their products.
